History | Program Overview-How does it Work? | Children's Scholarship Fund

In 1998 John Walton was one of the founding supporters of The BASIC Fund. During that same year John and Ted Forstmann co-founded Children’s Scholarship Fund in New York.

CSF provides partial tuition assistance so that low income families are able to send their children to private schools of their choice. In excess of 111,000 children have benefited from Children’s Scholarship’s support. Currently, 28,800 are enjoying this support including 5,000 BASIC Fund students.

Since our inception we have enjoyed generous matching gifts from Children's Scholarship Fund in New York and Arthur Rock. This means with 100% of our administrative costs covered by contributions from our board of directors, every dollar we raise in contributions becomes multiple dollars in scholarships.

We, The BASIC Fund, are proud to be one of the 34 partner programs with Children’s Scholarship Fund around the country.
