Chairman, BASIC Fund

JIM HERBERT

Jim Herbert is currently Chairman of The BASIC Fund and has been a Director since its founding in 1998. Mr. Herbert founded First Republic Bank in 1985 and served as CEO for 36 years, then Executive Chairman from 2022 to 2023. Previously, he was the founding CEO, President, and a Director of San Francisco Bancorp from 1980 to 1985. Mr. Herbert served as a member of the Federal Reserve’s Twelfth District Federal Advisory Council from 2018 through 2020 and served as a member of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Advisory Board. Mr. Herbert holds board/trustee positions with the San Francisco Ballet Association, Vice Chair and formerly Chair; Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, NY (Executive Committee). Mr. Herbert founded Chelsea Factory, a nonprofit performance arts space in Manhattan of which he is also Chairman. He formerly served as a trustee of Babson College.

The BASIC Fund is a privately funded 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to advance education equity for low-income families by helping offset the cost of tuition at private schools in the Bay Area.
