In 2021 the BASIC Fund provided over 3,600 scholarships to children in over 260 schools around the Bay Area.

By mid-February you will receive a link to renew your child(ren)’s scholarship online. Deadline for renewing is March 31st. If you have not received notification by late February call us at (415) 986-5650.

Scholarships are awarded to low-income families who fall within our guidelines (based on the Health & Human Services Low Income Guidelines), are entering private school for the first time, and have children entering Pre-Kindergarten through the eighth (PreK-8th) grade in a registered private school located in the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Napa, Solano, or Sonoma.

Las becas se otorgan a familias de bajos ingresos que entran dentro de nuestras pautas (basadas en las Pautas de Bajos Ingresos de Salud y Servicios Humanos), están ingresando a la escuela privada por primera vez, y tienen niños ingresando pre-Kindergarten al octavo (PreK-8th) grado en una escuela privada registrada  y ubicada en los condados de Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Napa, Solano o Sonoma.

Yes, as long as the school is within the nine Bay Area counties, the family meets all academic and admission requirements of the school to which they apply and the school is registered with the BASIC Fund (If new school with BASIC Fund please see How to become a Participating School under Schools).

Those Non-public schools located in one of the nine Bay Area counties that are registered with the California State Department of Education and are registered with The BASIC Fund. (New school with BASIC Fund please see Become A BASIC School under Our Scholarships).

Scholarships are awarded until the student completes 8th grade regardless of whenever they start with The BASIC Fund.

Scholarships are awarded on a sliding scale, usually covering 25%, 50%, or 75% of the selected school's tuition up to a maximum of $2,500 annually per child.

Participating families are required to contribute at a minimum of $500 per family (most pay more) to their children's education, are responsible for all costs not covered by the scholarship, must provide updated financial documentation through the Renewal process each year and meet all deadlines. Additionally, parents must agree to participate in their children’s education through involvement with the school and providing a supportive learning environment.

Families must remain financially eligible according to the BASIC Fund's financial guidelines, must renew online, provide updated financial documentation, the school must fill out the school commitment form online and meet all deadlines. Families must also be up-to-date in their payments to the school in order to be able to renew their scholarship for the next school year.

The average cost of tuition at schools participating in our program is $7,979; the average BASIC Fund scholarship is $1,787.

There are approximately 3,600 students in over 250 schools throughout the Bay Area receiving scholarships from The BASIC Fund.

All administrative and operating costs constitute less than 11% of our budget and are all covered by the directors' contributions.

The BASIC Fund is a privately funded 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to advance education equity for low-income families by helping offset the cost of tuition at private schools in the Bay Area.
